Pam Smith on Benjamin

I bought Ben on 1st March 2004 to replace my mare who had had to retire to stud due to injury. He was advertised as Mr Wonderful but I nearly didn't go to see him as he was advertised as 14.2hh and I had just tried a 15.1 which I felt too big on.

However, I rang up and the lady said she was 5ft 6in and he was fine so I arranged to see him. I tried him and he seemed just what I was looking for, so hacked him out in a blizzard & he was very good so arranged to buy him. A lot of people had advised me to get a young horse but I wanted something that knew his job. Ben had been successful hunting ,Pony Club & WHP.

He has been everything they said and more competing successfully at show jumping, unaffiliated ODE , Hunter Trials & Dressage as well as being able to take him anywhere and hack out alone or in company.

Although we mainly concentrate on Dressage, he has 49 BD points and hasn't been registered since October 2007 (as I had had a bad fall off another horse and it has taken a long time too get going again) he has progreesed to competing at Elementary level, which his previous owners cannot believe as they said he was always last after the dressage at ODE but often won on his jumping! His favourite discipline is probably hunter trialling although he tries his best at everything he does.
